More Ministers in the United National Front (UNF) Government have resigned from the cabinet.
Some United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarians also resigned from their posts in the party.
Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Highways and Road Development Kabir Hashim, Minister Malik Samarawickreme, State Minister of Defence and Minister of Mass Media Ruwan Wijewardene and Non Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology, Ajith P. Perera were among those who resigned.
“Respecting the people’s mandate, I officially resign as Minister of Highways and Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development. Further, I will be resigning as the Chairman of the United National Party with immediate effect,” Kabir Hashim said.
“While respecting the mandate of the people of Sri Lanka, I have decided to resign from my position as the Minister of Digital Infrastructure and IT with immediate effect. It was a well fought battle @sajithpremadasa and the country needs your leadership at this critical time,’ Ajith P. Perera tweeted.
Earlier, Sports Minister Harin Fernando had also announced he was resigning.
