by editorenglish

The Northern Provincial Council (NPC) held its final session yesterday (23/10) as its term comes to an end.

The term of the NPC will end at midnight today and the Northern Province Governor will operate the functions of the council till a new council is elected.

The current NPC was appointed after the historic elections held in September 2013.

C.V Wigneswaran was appointed as the Chief Minister of the NPC after the Tamil National Alliance won the election.

Wigneswaran has however distanced himself from the TNA in recent times and is expected to form his own political alliance to contest the next NPC elections.
