Occupying Sri Lanka military gives supports and security to the fishermen of South, who have been building Vaadi at Maruthankerni, M.K.Sivajilingam, the member of NPC stated.
He stated the above statement in the 123rd session of the Northern Provincial Council held last Thursday at the building of NPC located at Kaithady.
He further added the following;
Local fisher folks who staged protest against the fishermen of South, who are getting engaged in fishing while building Vaadis (small huts of the fishermen living at the coast) at Maruthankerni, were intimidated directly and over the phone.
Activities of forcefully building the Vadis at Maruthankerni by the fisherman from outside should be stopped. Failing to do so local fisher folks will have controversy with the fishermen from outside, which will ultimately affect throughout the country.
It is not spoken based on ethnicity. Fishermen of Jaffna cannot go to Mannar district to catch fish. Likewise, outside fishermen cannot get engaged in fishing by building Vadis.
Therefore, this issue should be taken to the attention of the President, Prime Minister and the Minister of Fisheries.
