The trade unions of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority say that the protests demanding to begin operations at the Eastern Container Terminal of the Colombo Port will commence from today (22).
Chairman of the Independent Port Services Trade Union, Lal Bangamuwage said there are 23 trade unions in the ports sector and members of all the trade unions are joining the trade union action.
He said that the protests will begin today (22) at 12 noon in front of the Port Chaitya and that the trade unions were preparing to declare a Black Week at the Port from yesterday.
He added that the protests would continue until the administration assured that the ECT would commence operations under the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
