People of Keppapulavu, which comes under the Karaithuraipatru Divisional Secretariat, have been staging protest, demanding the officials to resettle them at their native land by removing the military camp of the occupying SL military, since 1st of March, 2017 in front of the headquarters of the Keppapulavu Military Camp.
Following the assurance stating that the lands occupied by the occupying Sri Lankan military in north would be released before 31st of December did not get materialized; people who entered into the military camp with their belongings have been halted at the entrance of the camp by the Sri Lankan military day before yesterday. Consequently, people have started the attention drawn struggle by raising slogans.
When the people were attempting to enter into the camp, about 150 policemen were deployed at the entrance of the military camp. Then tense situation was prevailing there. When the police had talks with the people in this regard, people demanded the assurance of the Sri Lankan military commander. Police told the people that military commander would not discuss in this regard with the people and they would call the District Secretary.
Subsequently, Additional District Secretary of the Mullaitivu District K.Thanapalasingam, Divisional Secretary of Karaithuraipatru Divisional Secretariat E.Prathapan, Deputy District Secretariat of Mullaitivu Ms.Lathumeera and Village officers (Grama Niladari) went to the scene at once.
Officials, who got to know the opinions of the people, told the people that they would take this issue to the attention of the president through District Secretary and receive the response before 25th of January and they requested the people to stop the protest.
However, the people told the officials that they would continue the protest at the place where they have been protesting 1st of March, 2017. They further told the officials that they would enter into the Military Camp without fearng the guns if the solution is not met before 25th.
