A man was shot and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries when police officers opened fire at a suspicious vehicle which ignored orders to stop at Ariviyal area in Kilinochchi this morning.
The incident had taken place at around 06.20 this morning.
Based on information received by officers of the Kilinochchi division anti-vice unit that a large stock of cannabis is being transported in this vehicle, a team of officers were dispatched to apprehend the suspects.
The police officers have ordered the vehicle to stop but the vehicle had reportedly ignored orders and sped away.
It was later revealed that the officers of the Kebithigollewa Excise Unit were travelling in the SUV and the injured was an informant of the Excise Unit.
Kilinochchi Police is conducting further investigations.
