Post offices to keep opened for two hours when curfew lifted

Amid the current curfew imposed island wide, the Postal Services has made arrangements to deliver essential services, Post Master General has announced.

A statement issued by the Department of Government Information said although it is difficult to further maintain postal operations in an environment where all transport is stalled, on the instructions of the Minister of Information and Mass Media, Bandula Gunawardena and with the approval of the Ministry Secretary, the Postal Services has taken the following decisions.

  1. Keeping all Post / Sub Post Offices open for at least two hours a day, when the curfew is not enforced
  2. Attaching the staff and the vehicles of the Postal Department to the District Secretaries for distribution of essential consumer items
  3. Providing access to post office premises for operational purposes, if requested by the District Secretaries
  4. Delivering the medicines issued by the clinics in government hospitals to the houses of the patients on the instructions of the Coronavirus Control Task Force

The medicine, packaged by the hospitals, where the patients are receiving clinical treatment after checking their prescriptions at the hospital, and issued to the postal superintendents, will be delivered to the patients by the postal carriers.

Earlier it was announced that due to the prevailing situation in the country, all postal services have been suspended till further notice.
