President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to appoint a new Prime Minister and cabinet by Monday.
The President had said this during a meeting with members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) yesterday.
He had however said that he will not appoint United National Front leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister.
The President had expressed these views when the UPFA met yesterday after the Supreme Court ruled that the dissolution of Parliament by President Maithripala Sirisena was unconstitutional.
Delivering its ruling, a seven judge bench had said that the President cannot dissolve Parliament till Parliament completes its full 4 1/2 year term.
The court also noted that if the President wants to dissolve Parliament early he must have 2/3rd majority support for the move in Parliament.
