Protests were staged against an attempt to cremate the body of a man in the Kumarapuram village after he died at the Mullaitivu quarantine center.
The 80 year-old man was taken to the Mullaitivu quarantine center from Colombo and was one of two people who had reportedly died yesterday (Friday).
Both men were said to be beggars and were admitted to hospital after they had fallen ill.
Tests had been carried out on both remains and with the results confirming so far that the 80 year-old man had not died of the coronavirus, steps were taken to cremate his body in Kumarapuram as no one came forward to claim his body.
However youth from Kumarapuram had protested against his body being cremated in Kumarapuram.
His body was kept at the Mullaitivu District hospital and was later expected to be taken to Vavuniya to be cremated.
