An attention drawn protest demanding the repeal of all microfinance with the theme of “Free from micro credit” has been staged yesterday at Batticaloa.
This protest organized by the Union of Non-Governmental Organizations in Batticaloa staged in front of the Gandhi Park. Women and Women’s Organizations participated in this protest. A group of women protestors who went to the Batticaloa District Secretariat has handed over a memorandum to the officials.
It is stated in the memorandum number of suicides committed by women are getting increased due to the increasing numbers of microfinances borrowed by the women in large numbers in Batticaloa district.
They added that there are some good things in the Budget 2019 with regard to microfinance. Those who were affected by these microfinances in Batticaloa district should identified and they would be benefitted by such schemes, the protestors further added in the memorandum handed over to Uthayakumar, the Batticaloa District Secretariat.
