Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne has sought a report from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a complaint made by Parliamentarian, Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero.

The monk had complained that the investigations conducted by the CID into Kurunegala doctor, Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen was incomplete.

The monk had this week accused the CID of attempting to protect the doctor.

The CID had informed court this week that there was no evidence to back the allegations made against Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen, the doctor attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

The CID made the submission to court when the case was heard in Kurunegala.

The CID had submitted a report to court based on the investigations conducted by the OIC of the CID Gang Robberies Branch, IP Nishantha Silva.

The doctor, who is now in CID custody, had been accused of illegally sterilizing several women during operations he had conducted, preventing them from being able to give birth again.

However, the CID said that there was no evidence to prove the allegations.
