Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya has been requested to investigate a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November last year during the political crisis.
United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahuman has written to the Speaker calling for action to be taken against the Foreign Ministry.
In the letter, the UNP MP says the Foreign Ministry had issued a communiqué via fax to all Mission Heads saying Parliament had been dissolved.
The communiqué was signed by the then Foreign Minister Sarath Amunugama.
The reason given to dissolve Parliament was the behaviour of the Speaker of Parliament.
Rahuman says the communiqué harms the dignity of the Office of the Speaker of Parliament and so must be investigated.
