Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake said special security arrangements have been implemented in the Kandy city for the Esala Perahera and urged the public to visit the Perahera without any fear.
The Army Commander made this statement when he visited the Dalada Maligawa this morning to present the annual copra stock for the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival.
The Sri Lanka Army Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment has donated six tons of copra for the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival. The handing over of the stock of copra to the Dalada Maligawa took place under the patronage of the Army Commander.
This is the sixth occasion that the Army had carried out this merit deed in remembrance of the war heroes who died for the country and for the disabled.
Expressing his views on the occasion, the Army Commander said that they expect to hold the Esala Maha Perahera Festival within a peaceful environment.
He said that the Armed Forces and the Police are strong to assure the security of the people and called on the public to come to Kandy and participate in the Esala Festival without any fear.
“When there is an emergency, the Army has a special role. We have jointly worked with the Sri Lanka Police and the Air Force and the Navy to implement a special security program. More troops have been sent to the area to do our part. We hope to hold the Perahera this time too in a peaceful environment. We appeal to the public to come to the city and attend this historic event without any fear,” the Army commander said.
The Kandy Esala Perahera Festival will commence on the 05th of next month.
Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Central Province Commander Major General Laksiri Waduge and Major General Senarath Bandara of the 11th Division were among those present on the occasion.
