Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa would assume duties in the second week of December at the Opposition Leader’s office at Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Colombo-07, an Opposition spokesman yesterday said.

Rohan Welivita, however, said that former Opposition leader R. Sampanthan was still occupying the Opposition Leader’s office, claiming to be the Opposition Leader.

The Cabinet was expected to decide on a person to be appointed as the Secretary to the Leader of Opposition on January 02, Welivita said.

The Leader of the Opposition is required to nominate an SLAS Officer as his secretary for Cabinet approval, “We have decided on a nominee and we expect a positive decision soon”, Welivita said.
