Sri Lanka notes important role played by late Indian FM

Sri Lanka yesterday took note of the important role played by late Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed condolences over the death of former Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.

In his letter, Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka will always remember Swaraj for the personal touch she brought into the relationship between India and Sri Lanka.

Wickremesinghe also said that the relationship between Sri Lanka and India reached greater heights when Sushma Swaraj was the Indian Foreign Minister.

Swaraj, 67, passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack in the evening.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Austin Fernando and the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrama attended the funeral of Smt. Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi yesterday.
