Sri Lanka PM discusses regional relations with Indian, Bangladeshi Ministers in Vietnam

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met with Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj at the Indian Ocean Conference in Vietnam’s Hanoi on Monday.

During the meeting, Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has highlighted India’s continued commitment to investment into housing, ports and aviation in Sri Lanka.

Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs inaugurated the third edition of Indian Ocean Conference in Hanoi today.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the inaugural session of the two-day conference themed “Building Regional Architectures” on Monday.

The Premier also met with the Bangladesh Minister of Planning AHM Mustafa Kamal this morning at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Hanoi.

During the meeting Bangladesh Minister has sought Sri Lanka’s assistance and expert advice in the development of the tea, fishery, medicines and leather industries, as well as development in education and finance sectors.

Minister Mustafa Kamal has also recalled the support of Sri Lanka’s cricketers including Dulip Mendis for Bangladesh cricket and the support given by Sri Lanka during his tenure as chairman of the International Cricket Council.

The discussion also focused on the future role of the Indian Ocean Summit and the importance of formulating an action plan with all stakeholders in the near future.

The Indian Ocean Conference 2018, organized by India Foundation in association with The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies and Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies will be held on 27th-28th August 2018 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
