Sri Lankan Ambassador to U.S. and WFP Chief discuss food security in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe met with the Chief of World Food Programme (WFP), Executive Director David Beasley, on 20th July 2022 in Washington D.C. to discuss his forthcoming visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Ambassador Samarasinghe briefed Mr. Beasley on the election of President Ranil Wickremesinghe on 20th July 2022 in the Parliament by an overwhelming majority and reiterated President Wickremesinghe’s intention to closely work with the WFP in addressing food security-related issues such as fertilizer and other agricultural inputs.

Mr. Beasley wanted Ambassador Samarasinghe to convey his best wishes to President Wickremesinghe and informed that he looks forward to his impending visit to Sri Lanka and the meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Ambassador was accompanied to the meeting by Rohana Ambagolla, Deputy Chief of Mission and Chathuri Perera, First Secretary.
