Sri Lanka’s 72nd National Independence Day celebrations will be held at the Independence Square in Colombo next month under the theme “A Secured Nation – A Prosperous Country”.
A special discussion in this regard took place under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees.
Attention was paid during the discussion to reduce the number of participants at the National Day ceremony by 30 percent and only to use cultural items in line with the theme.
The Prime Minister requested to hoist a national flag at each house and to plant a sapling on the Independence Day.
It was decided to give permission to Weera Podujana Foundation which is a collective of persons who have saved lives of others risking their own lives, to join the ceremony.
The Prime Minister said that rehearsals, directing traffic and ensuring security near the area of the ceremony should be conducted without causing hardships to the public.
A group of people including Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Dullas Alahapperuma, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahinda Samarasinghe, high ranking military and police officers and Ministry Secretaries were present at the discussions.
