Two police officers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting at a truck that ran through a check point in Point Pedro resulting in the death of a youth.
A 25-year-old youth was killed at Manalkadu, Point Pedro when police Sunday afternoon opened fire at a truck illegally transporting sand failed to heed police orders to stop at a check point.
The victim has been identified as Yogarasa Dinesh of Karaveddy, Nelliadi.
The two police officers arrested over the incident are due to be produced before the Point Pedro Magistrate’s Court today.
Steps have also been taken to suspend the service of these officers.
It has been reported that a tense situation erupted in the area after the incident as residents pelted stones at a police vehicle. The elite Special Task Force police has been deployed to control the situation.
