Five Sri Lankan policemen belonging to Jaffna Police Station were arrested on the charges of gunning down the two students belonging to the University of Jaffna.

The SL police first attempted to cover up the killings Friday morning describing that the students had died in a motorbike accident.

“We heard gunshots. When we rushed to the scene, we could see that those students had been cold-bloodedly gunned down”, the neighbor of the scene stated.

The police arrived on the scene a few minutes after the accident.

Another neighbor of the scene also stated the same and he added that he was with the policemen arrived on the scene when they were taking these deceased to the hospital.

In the morning, the police concentrated on the spot.

One of the passersby stated that he could see that policemen had been deployed in enormous numbers at the spot when he was passing by the particular street by 4 AM.

It looked as if that the deployed policemen and military soldiers in enormous numbers for roundup operations during the war time.

At once I returned to my home and then only I got to know about the incident took place at the particular street, the passerby further added.

Did the police deployed at the morning to cover up the evidences?

The one who went to Kokuvil junction in the morning stated that huge numbers of policemen were deployed at the street and they were in search of something but I could not see what they were actually in search of.

CCTV Camera recorded the scene

The CCTV camera fixed at a shop recorded that these two students in a motorbike passed by the particular shop at 11:45 PM. It further recorded that a team of policemen wearing raincoats had passed by the shop at 11:47 PM.

The motorbike was taken away from the scene on the following day at 12 noon.

Postmortem report

In the postmortem report, it is stated that Sulaxan had died due to the gunshots. Consequently, five policemen who were on night patrol on the particular day have been arrested and being investigated in this regard.
