The Sri Lanka Police has issued new directives on adhering to health safety measures in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus as the people have become complacent with the lifting of restrictions imposed earlier.
The Police said wearing face masks when in public places is mandatory and people who do not wear the masks will be subjected to a 14-day quarantine.
This action will be implemented from tomorrow (June 28), the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said the health and safety measures observed in the past three months such as wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands need to be continued to control the spread of COVID-19.
He said the public should follow the instructions given by the Health Ministry until the COVID-19 epidemic is out of the country and accordingly, one should still pay special attention to wearing masks.
Legal action will be taken against violators of health guidelines under the quarantine laws and criminal laws of the country, he added.
DIG Ajith Rohana requested the general public to continue to cooperate with the authorities to prevent a second wave of the COVID-19.
