Digamadulla already a hotspot for election violence – CaFFE

by editorenglish

Sri Lanka election monitor, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) warned that certain parts of Digamadulla district in the Eastern Province could be a hotspot for election violence.

CaFFE Executive Director Manas Makeen said that they have identified three hotspots in the district. They are Pottuvil, Sainthamaruthu and Akkaraipattu.

“There is also a lot of hate speech and some violence. The first incident of election violence was reported in Akkaraipattu. A vehicle carrying SJB candidate Thawam was attacked with stones there,” he said.

Makeen added that police must put extra security in these areas to minimize violence.
