Despite people who caught the thieves when they were making attempt to snatch “Thaali” (Thaali is the gold jewel wearing as the marital bond in Tamil culture) have taken these thieves to Police Station, the actions against them are yet to be taken, according to the accusations made by the people.
Snatching the jewels from women happens continuously in Murukandy-Akkarayan road. Jewels of two women were snatched in this month also.
Despite complaints have been lodged in this regard, actions are yet to be taken. Meanwhile, when one of the family men of Akkarayan area was travelling along this road with his wife by motorbike, two unknown in a motorbike have made attempt to snatch the “Thaali” of his wife. The woman has started screaming when they were making attempt to snatch her “Thaali”.
Men, who were at the scene, get together with the particular family man chased thieves and caught one of them. He was then taken to Police Station after being humiliated.
Then, another thief has also been caught and taken to Police Station. Meanwhile, Akkarayan Police who refused to file the complaint in this regard told the people to lodge the complaint at Killinochchi Police Station.
Consequently, people gathered together and had quarrels with the Policemen in this regard. Subsequently, the police who refused to file the complaint chased the people away by intimidating them stating that case would be filed against the people who caught the thieves.
People demanded the responsible officers to take proper actions after carrying out proper investigation.
