The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) says it cannot give assurances of quick fixes or false promises and assurances.
Chairman of the Office on Missing Persons Saliya Pieris said that he told families of the disappeared in Mulaithivu on 2018/06/02 that that the issue of surendees disappearing is high on the OMP list of priorities.
“I clearly told families of the disappeared that the issue of surendees disappearing is high on the OMP list of priorities and that requesting the authorities for lists will be done. I also said that the OMP cannot give false promises or assurances or promise quick fixes,” he tweeted.
Pieris denied reports that he had assured the families the OMP will release the name list of the disappeared in final war.
“I did NOT say OMP will release the name list of the disappeared in final war. The OMP does not have such a list. What was asked was for OMP to obtain the list of surrendees from the authorities. We requested them to submit this request in writing and assured immediate follow up,” he said.
