Rishad Bathiudeen remanded till Nov 10th

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has rejected the bail application submitted by MP Rishad Bathiudeen and further remanded the parliamentarian until the 10th of November.

Bathiudeen was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department on October 19 in Dehiwala on a charge of misusing public funds during the 2019 Presidential Election and was remanded till yesterday (27) after being produced before court.

Former Minister of Industry and Commerce Bathiudeen, project director Mohamed Yaseen Samsudeen and the project accountant Alagarathnam Manoranjan are accused of violating Presidential Elections Act by misappropriating public funds to the tune of 9.5 million rupees.

They have allegedly misused 222 SLTB buses for transporting Internally Displaced Persons from Puttalam to polling stations in Silawathurai, Mannar during the 2019 Presidential Election.
