The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) today demanded that Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Geneva be recalled over the controversy surrounding Sri Lanka cosponsoring the Resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council.
SLPP member, Parliamentarian Janaka Wakkumbura said that President Maithripala Sirisena has made it clear that Ambassador A.L.A. Azeez had betrayed him and the military.
The President had said yesterday (Thursday) that he was not aware of the decision taken by the Government to cosponsor the Resolution on Sri Lanka at the UNHRC.
“On February 25th the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Geneva (Ambassador A.L.A. Azeez) had signed the Resolution without informing me. I do not accept that,” the President had said.
Wakkumbura told reporters today that the President must recall the Ambassador and express his strong displeasure on the actions of the Ambassador.
