The Criminal Investigation department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police today arrested a senior Navy officer in connection with the disappearance of 11 youths who had been abducted in Colombo and surrounding areas in 2008 and 2009.
The CID arrested Navy Commodore DKP Dassanayake this evening after interrogation him while he was receiving treatment at Welisara Navy Hospital.
The former Navy Spokesman was arrested on charges of assisting and issuing instructions pertaining to the disappearances. He is to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Three other naval officers were also arrested in March this year in connection with the abduction of the youth including six international school students and five university students in 2008.
The young boys have been abducted from Kotahena and Dehiwala areas. However, it is not known yet whether the abducted youth are still living or dead.
Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne yesterday also ordered to arrest a Lieutenant Commander of the Navy who was allegedly involved in the abduction of the youth.
