The United States (US) has told opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa that sharing intelligence between friendly nations is a key factor in preventing attacks like the Easter Sunday bombings.

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alaina Teplitz paid a courtesy call on Rajapaksa to express her condolences and solidarity on behalf of the US Government and her people for the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday.

“I expressed my sympathies to all those US citizens who lost their lives in this brutal act of terror. The Ambassador, on behalf of the US Government pledged its full support to Sri Lanka against its fight against terrorism,” Rajapaksa said in a statement.

Ambassador Teplitz had stated that the terrorist attacks on 9/11 in the US have taught them many lessons and the US intelligence services have been further strengthened since.
