18th Remembrance of “Pongu Tamil Declaration” has been remembered yesterday (17/01). Students, lecturers and staffs of the University of Jaffna remembered the 18th anniversary of “Pongu Tamil Declaration” in front of the Pongu Tamil monument located at the premises of the Faculty of Arts.
Massive uprising event on the theme of “Pongu Tamil” was conducted by the Jaffna University Community in 2001 even though the Jaffna University was being under the suppression of the occupying Sri Lanka military.
In this uprising event it had been declared that Self-determination, Tamils’ homeland and Tamil nation should be recognized. This declaration is called “Pongu Tamil Declaration”.
