Chairperson of Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission resigns

Dr. Deepika Udagama, Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has resigned from the post.

Sri Lanka parliament media unit said the Constitutional Council which met Monday noted that Dr. Deepika Udagama has tendered her resignation from the post as chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

The Constitutional Council has appreciated the role played by Dr. Udagama in elevating the status of the commission.

Chairman of the Constitutional Council former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed the Constitutional Council that the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka is rated as one of the best in the world and that he would like to convey the appreciation to the commission for the exceptional achievement, parliament media unit said

Constitutional Council held its final meeting before the next Parliament on Monday (03) at 5.30pm at the Speaker’s Residence under the patronage of its Chairman and former Speaker of the 8th Parliament Karu Jayasuriya.
