Chief Prelates urge Muslim Ministers to resume duties

The Chief Prelates in Kandy today urged Muslim Ministers who had resigned from their portfolios this week, to resume their Government duties.

The Chief Prelates of all the Buddhist Chapters had a special meeting today on the situation in the country.

Speaking to reporters later the Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter, the Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero said that it was decided to submit a set of policy proposals to the Government and the public.

The monk also said that the Chief Prelates were of the opinion the resignation of the Muslim Ministers should not have happened.

He said that instead, any Muslim Minister facing accusations should come forward and prove his innocence.

All Muslim Ministers, including Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, resigned from their portfolios in the Government this week.

All Muslim State and Deputy Ministers had also tendered their resignations.
